Music & Audio Content Editor | UK Pavilion, World Expo 2025 Osaka

with Immersive International

For the UK Pavilion at World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan (13 April – 13 October 2025), Midori served as the Music & Audio Content Editor as part of a multidisciplinary team to realize the Pavilion’s ambitious creative vision.

The UK’s presence at the Expo, commissioned by the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), centers on the theme ‘Come Build the Future’. Midori worked closely with the Pavilion’s Experiential Designers, Immersive International, to produce a story-led, bilingual sonic journey.

The UK Pavilion’s exhibition, ‘Come Build the Future,’ is a multi-sensory, bilingual (Japanese & English) journey through the UK’s past, present, and future, guided by the pavilion mascot, PIX. To ensure this experience was truly universal and accessible, the development involved working in close coordination with specialist accessibility consultants to produce and integrate bespoke Audio Description into the core soundscape, in both English and Japanese.

The music and sound was an essential element within the Pavilion’s physical and narrative structure, which was delivered by ES Global (Lead Design-and-Build Partner) and WOO architects (Lead Architect). The Pavilion’s unique modular design, inspired by the work of Ada Lovelace and the shared textile heritage of Manchester and Osaka, provided the sonic canvas for the exhibition.

"With echoes of British musical identity that have been treasured by Japanese audiences over the decades, this sonic experience offers both familiarity and a sense of discovery for everyone. It's been a great pleasure working with composer Benedic Lamdin, sound designer Simon Little and the wonderful team at Immersive International, in developing a musical journey that bridges two cultures. "

This placement was supported by the CHASE / Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) as a vital component of Midori’s practice-based PhD at Goldsmiths, University of London.
